I am annoyed with Facebook

Last Saturday my Dad rode his bicycle over to my loft with a few of his friends. They drank their Gatorade's and ate their Pay Day candy bars and we talked for about 20 minutes while they recuperated for the ride back along the river trail north to Coralles.

Upon leaving, my Dad threw out, "You know John and Devon had their baby, right?" (John is my cousin who lives in NY)

"No," I answered. "Nobody told me."

"Oh well it was posted on Facebook."

I hate Facebook, I thought.

I hadn't been on Facebook in weeks because my computer was down. Since I got back from China, I haven't wanted to use Facebook anyway because that's all I had, along with email, to keep in touch with loved ones. I felt Facebook'd out. I still do, and it annoys me because I feel if I don't keep up with friends and family on Facebook I'll be out-of-the-loop about everything!

So that evening I bundled up and scooted two miles to UNM and used the computer lab just to use Facebook. Indeed, the details of Collin Michael's birth were posted on John's page, along with the new baby celebratory pictures.

Along with the information of Colin's birth, I found out a lot of other information. Like, my Aunt Bina had recently moved into a new house and that a friend from high school was pregnant, and that an ex boyfriend of mine got fat all of a sudden.

My mind juggled this overload of information, and for a couple hours after I was still processing everything Facebook told me.

I long for the days of postcards and hand written letters. And some things are better left unknown. An acquaintance of mine on Facebook posted pictures of the ultrasound of her baby. On my home page I had pictures of a fetus of some girl I hardly knew. It's just too much information.

At this point, I am happier to receive delayed news or no news rather than overload myself with the plethora of unnecessary details of people's lives.

Facebook, you annoy me.
