26 hours straight

There are only a few people in this world who I want to spend 24 hours straight with. It is seldom that I do just so. Sunday was a rare treat for me. I spent 26 hours straight with my friend Avram. We started the day with a hike to the three volcanos on the west mesa. We walked atleast 4 miles on the mesa to where a ridge drops off into a canyon. Nina the Pug was of course in tow. We ate a savory lunch at Whole foods of salad, olives, tomatoes, chips and salsa and guacamole. Then we went back to my place and rested for a hour, our intention was to nap, but we just ended up talking. Then we went to see Invictus, at the Downtown theatre just a couple minutes away. It was a great film about Nelson Mandela beginnings at presidency and how important South Africa's rugby team was in uniting the country. We brought a bottle of wine in a Nalgene bottle. Back to my place for tea in my new tea pot, brewed in my new tea kettle. We snacked and sipped tea, and listened to music and talked. We pet Nina and listened to music and were quiet. It was effortlessly simple. Then we watched another film called Noi, a sad, interesting film about a depressed boy living in Iceland. We fell asleep late, awoke early, and I wanted pancakes. So we went to the Frontier. Avram got a breakfast burrito. I got pancakes. We people watched. We chatted. He drove me home. We hugged and said goodbye.

Avram lives in New Orleans, so our time together is limited. What joy to spend so many effortless, in-the-moment hours together.
