February 5th is the Feast of Saint Agatha.
She is the mammarily mutilated virgin martyn, 251.
Patron of bell makers, bell ringers, jewelers, Malta, nurses, wet nurses, invoked against breast disease, fire, volcanoes.
emblem: holding her breasts of a platter.
(Do I make a fine representation?)
The story goes:
When Agatha, a noble Sicilian had both of her breasts cut off by the order of Roman senator as punishment for being Christian. In sacred art, Agatha is noted as carrying her breasts on a platter. In the middle ages, her breasts were misrepresented as bells, or small bread loaves (buns) and she was made the patroness of bell ringers and bakers.
Saint Agatha, your breasts gave me artistic inspiration!
