Liam in class 4, at Serendipity Day School made me this picture.
I have been spending my weekdays subbing at two different preschools. I throughly enjoy my days with kids between the ages of 2 and 4.
I have noticed that even at the age of 2, children look for independence. I used to think that preschool was just for kids who had parents who had to work and couldn't stay home with them. I used to think of it as unfortunate that at such a young age children had to be away from their family.
A couple days ago, I watched Parker, a gerber baby 2 year old little girl march about the class with a baby doll. She had this air of confidence and independence. She got pushed down a few times by bigger kids and got back up, and communicated in her baby talk that she didn't like that.
I see kids all the time burst out into tears, or push their parents away, when they come to pick them up. The preschool is their world of fun and independence, a place where they make choices and play with other kids their age.
I am now pro preschool.
Teaching these kids opens my heart. I look forward everyday to see them. I love reading them stories, giving them hugs, chasing them on the playground, and laughing at the things they do and say.
