It was sort of like a congregation of goddesses, and I was surprised and happy I was invited.
All of the women were connected to the Lama foundation in some way, a rural mountain intentional community.
I rode the Rail Runner up with super awesome school teacher Michelena and her brainiac daughter Naia. We talked about bilingual teaching, Japan, books and love stories, while eating caramels and mandarin oranges. Naia chomped down a lunchable and was lost in her chapter book.
We were met at the train station by Beth (a divine matriarch figure) and Amy, (sweet, illuminating) and off we drove to a large house surrounded by pine treats and cool high desert air. Once we went inside, I reunited with some familiar faces, and we talked and munched on goodies on a snack table of all my favorite snacks: black panda licorice, banana chips, salsa. hummus, carrots, strawberries, dark chocolate, actually chocolate of all kinds. I brought chile covered chips I bought at a Mexican market the day before.
We had a great lodge with lots of sharing and support, and we ended by singing a song for everyone in the group, and then Michelena, Naia and I had to run to catch the last train, that we missed! But, it's okay. Michelena's husband came for us, and we got to have tea and chat with Lama friends some more.
One thing that really stuck with me was a quote by an anoyomous person that Michelena said:
"Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it turned into a butterfly."
I connected with it because I feel like a caterpillar in a cocoon being shoved full of homework and assignments and experiences, and it's hard to see right now that one day I will break through my cocoon of become a butterfly, who is able to gracefully teach, and fly on my own. It's quite a lot of transformation, but I just gotta go with it.
That's my quote for the rest of the semester, and it will give me strength this last month to be brave and trust that I already know a lot about what I'm doing!
