Children's books to be illustrated

This particular poem/children's book to be in is "rhyme, rhythm, sequence" meaning that it has rhyme, a rhythm or sounds, and a sequence that is easy to follow. Mathilde read aloud an essay in the Sun magazine last week, "Submit to Mother India" by Andrew Boyd. It was a well written, funny, descriptive piece about how India knocks a travelers socks off, and I related well to it. So, I've been thinking about India, and I decided to write my R. R. S children's book assignment on it. Here goes:

INDIA

In India there are all kinds of sounds.

There are taxis beep beep beeping!

and trucks honk honk honking!

There are cows moo moo mooing!

and goats baa-baa baaing!

There is hot chai stir, boil, simmering.

and fried samosas steam, bubble, sizzling.

There are fires cough, smoke, crackling

and monkeys swing, cackle, jabbering

There are elephants slowly swaying,

and rickshaws skit, honk zooming!

There are beggars “please ma’am” asking,

and brahmans wisely teaching.

There are Muslims rise and bend, kneeling,

and Hindus “Ram, Sita Ram,” chanting,

There are Jains naked all exposed walking,

and Sikhs all white wearing.

There are Buddhists walk, sit, meditating,

and Christians praise, sing, amening.

There are hawkers “only 10 rupee!” vending,

and school girls joke, laugh, giggling

There are dead bodies black, crackle burning

and little babies cooing, whining, screaming.

There are trains roar, tweet, chugging,

and rain whish, drip, falling!

There’s the sun hot, bright, burning,

and the monsoon wet, whosh, washing

All the time, it’s beep, honk, moo, baa, simmer, bubble, crackle, jabber, sway, zoom, “please ma’am!”, rise, bend, kneel, “Ram Sita Ram”, walk sit, praise sing amen! “only 10 rupee!” ha ha, hehe, crackle burning, coo waaaa!, roar, tweet, chug, whish, whosh dripping!

Except for a few minutes before daylight, when it’s shhhh shhhh (nothing.)

I didn't quite have time for illustrations so I illustrated my book with photos of my trip for class sharing. Here's a pic for you.

Note: I don't want this photo to come off stupid, touristy, look-we're-holding-orphans, but all I have is what facebook has to offer bc my own India photos disappeared when my old computer crashed.
